Hi peops
My last annual leave day today – then normal service is resumed next week… so while I started off thinking fab – let’s make the most of my last day of freedom– cos I’m not at work, I’ve had one of those ‘best laid plans’ days – where everything hasn’t gone quite right – but are we downhearted? No…..well yes maybe a little bit….
Y’see, I went and got a new humungous mirror to hang above the fireplace – very ‘seventies’ – I still blame Steve for all my reminiscing this last few weeks….and when I got it home I found out why it was so reasonably priced – the back is warped – the hardboard backing has two waves in it – so being the perfectionist… after all everybody is going to want to see the back aren’t they?..... I carefully lever the clips back and release the backing to see how much I may need to trim off – and then as I slide my hands back up it and slice two fingers – and bleed all over the back…..and me...and the carpet…..then the phone rang…… you’re getting the picture… then the doorbell rang…neighbour."Hello Alan" - by this time I am in mid ‘swear-box’ mode – and hoping his hearing aid was on low volume! Yes – there is blood over the door handles, phone etc etc – and now all over my PC and mouse cos I thought I’d share it with you before I go to Issie’s for dinner and bleed all over there too.
The mirror thing - I think I got back into the ‘seventies’ mindset after finding my 1975 diary – when I was 13….. it’s a real riveting read and has brought back loads of funny memories!
In it on most Sundays I mentioned recording the Top 20 on my cassette player – with a running commentary on how good some were and others not…. Carefully listed the whole of the top ten on some occasions… week of March 31st in 1975 – were Bay City Rollers Bye Bye Baby at No. 1 and The Goodies Funky Gibbon at No. 10! Kids these days don’t know what they missed out on do they with their ipods and nanowotsits… give me a good old cassette player any day…trying desperately to keep the DJ’s voice out of it in between the songs – and then you’d buy those awful LPs which were fake groups singing the songs????
On February 2nd…. “Washed and curlered my hair. It was not dry when I got them out…” What an exciting fashionable young thing I must’ve been. Facebook friends will have seen some pics already…
In fact there was a lot of excitement in 1975 as I got my first Saturday job at the hairdressers – 'Carole-Ann's - I started on Jan 11th – and got 20p an hour – so at the end of the day I picked up £1.20! I had 14p tips one day! Mom apparently came in one day and gave me 2p and wanted 1p change!
I also invented loads of fake boyfriends which I had to keep listed in my diary so I would remember the names to talk about them at school – nothing new there then ;-)
The corker was on June 22nd – when I had my first date with a real boy called Harold….. please don’t read on if you are easily offended….;-)
“Met Harold at Bournville Green. Walked through three parks, went to Rowheath – hand in hand. Had a choc-ice before he got down to business. He found a secluded gully where he slobbered all over me, he told me that he had got a ‘hard on!’ so I told him that it was time I got home. I had grass stains all over my safari suit. Came home, had tea etc…” Talk about playing it down… came home, had tea etc……!! Wonder whether poor Harold is still traumatised somewhere? :-D
Don’t think there’s much more I can say – I’ll try and find some more bits and put them on the Blog!
Have a great week folks!
